Working holiday abroad for a year
Friday, August 6th, 2010
I am heading to Canada at the end of August for a one year working holiday. I plan to return to the UK in September/October 2011. Will I still have to pay tax in the UK on my earnings in Canada if I send in a p85? and can I claim back tax I have paid for the period April - August 2010? Thanks

TaxFix
If you are leaving the UK you will be able to claim a tax refund.
When you stop working in the UK you will be given a P45 from your employer. When you have this you can claim your tax refund here:
If you become a resident for tax purposes in Canada, you will pay tax there and not in the UK, if you are no longer resident in the UK.
