Paying tax for the first time, i am self employed but i haven't registered yet as i basically started today. However, i don't know what forms i have to fill in, so if someone could give me a step by step guide not URLs to the HMRC website it would be much appreciated.

i have worked for 14 months as a joiner for a guy who owns student houses in the uk,he assumed i was self employed,i printed out invoices and he then gave me cheques made out to my name saying joinery after my surname,now i need to tell the tax about this or do i,i dont want to be in trouble,i have gone off food and have trouble sleeping now, please help ?
