I work outside of the UK for a company based in the UK. I am paid into a UK bank account in pounds...... with tax deducted. Surely as I am living outside of the country I should not pay tax?

Your liability to pay tax will depend on your residency for tax purposes.
The rules for tax residency are quite complicated. Your status will depend on the facts. The main rule is that you are UK resident if you spend 183 days or more here in a tax year, or after four years your visits average 91 days or more over those years.
If you are not UK resident, you pay UK tax only on UK income.
