Often people who require tools for their work can claim tax relief on those tools.
If you would like to claim a tax refund you can apply here:

Hi
I have started work part time, paid monthly, so I believe I will be on emergency tax until it is all sorted P45 wise. I received my P45 from JSA and have that handed that in.
However what I am confused about as to how things will be affected is, I also do some casual work (only part time, less than 15 hours, I did this for about 4 weeks whilst on JSA – obviously I declared all earnings ./ pay slips etc so did not receive money from JSA for that period, just the signing as less than 16 hours)so all above board..
I am still registered for the casual work, and do that ad-hoc, usually only about 5 weeks part / time per year. So this year I estimate I will be able to do about 45 hours worth of casual work.
Will this affect my tax code for my regular job (16.25hours per week) or my casual job? Is there anything I need to do myself or will it all work out automatically?
Thanks

Lancslass: You should let the Inland Revenue know about the extra income, then they can change your tax code accordingly or you may have to complete a tax return.
