I am a UK citizen. In August 2008 i left the uk to travel. As i worked less that 6 months of the financial year, am i entitled to any tax back?

Yes, as you left the UK only working for 6 months of the year, you can claim a tax refund.
When you finished working you should have been given a P45, do you still have this?
If so all you need to do is apply online here:
