If you lost your job, you often can claim a tax refund because you will have only worked for part of the tax year.

You can calculate your tax refund by using your P45 (which you should get when you finishing working for your employer) and then adding any benefits such as job seekers allowance during the tax year.

So you will total all your income between April 6th and April 5th of the following year.

Do the same for the tax that you paid (this should be on your P45). And then input the tax and income figures into a tax calculator:

Unfortunately it is not possible to get a tax refund by phoning, you need to make a written application.
